Striped Trench Coat and Union Jack Shoes- Dressing for Unpredictable British Weather

Red, white and blue is a classic summer combination and one which has a nod to the nautical about it, particularly when the white and blue happen to be breton stripes. It’s also a fail-safe combination and one I’m very fond of. Last week I wore a navy and white striped maxi dress with this same red lotus flower scarf, very much a summer look, whereas this weeks patriotic outfit is somewhat more trans-seasonal.
Having a stylish trench-coat makes dressing for the unpredictable British weather a little less of a chore and it’s a style that can be popped over jeans, cropped trousers, dresses or skirts and worn with flats or heels. Throw on a contrasting scarf and it’s a quick and easy outfit that’s good to go.

The cropped flared jeans are a new shape for me, having been over skinnies for a while and having realised that it would be useful to have more than just my faithful boyfriend jeans in my wardrobe. They are becoming increasingly distressed, (rather more than the intentional gentle distressing that they had by design) with a hole on my thigh that I suspect might lead my (young teenage) children to soon call time on them. Wide-legged and narrow-legged cropped jeans with a flare are the shapes of the current and upcoming new season so these will work as hard for me as my boyfriends did, throughout the rest of summer and autumn.

And despite the frankly awful weather we’ve been having here in North Yorkshire for longer than I’d like to remember, I’m still glad to be British whatever the weather.

I have a soft spot for anything nautical, so I'm loving this look. Love the scarf and the bracelet. It's little details like this that really pull an outfit together, and you always manage to chose just the perfect accessories.
